STROKE SURVIVORS INFORMATION PAGE
After returning from rehabilitation hospitals, or having finished with the help of physiotherapists, you will have probably realised that you must get out and rehabilitate yourself in a local gym or health centre, otherwise you will probably just regress at home. Read here why retraining and exercise after stroke is so essential, not just for physical but for cognitive improvement. Unfortunately, as you can imagine, many reasons (real and imaginary) may stop you from making this change. Gyms or other training areas are often daunting places for you to go and when you get there, unsurity about exercise selection and technique either stops or injures the uninformed. Combined with problems such as limited resources, restricted travel options and fatigue, long-term positive plastic change is hardly ever even given the chance to get started. This situation is no good.
You need an Instructor, who understands the nature of stroke, who has been trained over time with the ARNI Course manual, chocked full of techniques for task-related practice, resistance training and essential strategies to enable management of limitations whilst recovering. This Instructor's remit is to facilitate you to rehabilitate yourself AUTONOMOUSLY. Your Instructor will give you the tools you need to help yourself as quickly as possible.
THE ARNI INSTITUTE TRAINS HIGHLY ABLE PT INSTRUCTORS & THERAPISTS ALL AROUND THE UK, AND MATCHES THEM WITH STROKE SURVIVORS IN THEIR AREAS, UPON YOUR REQUEST.
Most of our Instructors own their own physical fitness business or even their own Centre in their local area. They will also have demonstrated, via their CV's, prior interest in helping special populations, conducting sports rehab, work with the infirm and and often, exposure to the particular training requirements of stroke survivors. Instructors are all CRB checked and are Level 3 or above on the Register of Exercise Professionals - or equivalent. See Instructors page for more.
