Do you have drop-foot from stroke? Dr Tom recommends buying the Ankle Exerciser (ASIN B0D76J46QK), currently at £325 on Amazon to accompany your ARNI training with an instructor or by yourself with the help of the ARNI manual and DVDs. It's a specialised rehabilitation tool specifically designed for stroke survivors to address foot drop, ankle stiffness and muscle atrophy 🦶📉. By focusing on active and passive movement, it helps rewire the neural pathways through consistent, repetitive motion, which is essential for improving your gait and preventing long-term joint freezing 🧠⚡️.
This device has helpful features like 3-speed regulation and manual or automatic control modes, allowing you to customise the intensity based on your personal comfort and recovery stage 🎮🔄. The tech behind it enables full-angle training, covering both plantarflexion and dorsiflexion to ensure your ankle gets a thorough range of motion while you remain safely seated or lying down 🛋🏥.
Its ergonomic design includes a soft inner wall to protect sensitive skin and a reinforced strap to keep your ankle securely locked in place during every session, making it a reliable partner for home-based ARNI rehab training in the New Year 🏠🛡.

These are on Amazon at wildly varying prices - the cheapest I've found is £325: www.amazon.co.uk/Stretching-Exerciser-Rehabilitation-Extension-Hemiplegic/dp/B0CCLL7QXP/ref=sr_1_...
I have FD but from peroneal nerve injury not stroke. Would this still help ?
Finally a brace that doesn’t look like it will bend in 2 seconds. Would be great combined with some Botox
Is this passive or assisted or full personal effort?
Important to find out if it worked for majority of foot drop, at the price most of us wouldn’t be able afford this as well as therapists too to assist with this?
Looks great thank you. I will have a read, My ankle was very affected by spasticity over the holidays and I had a fall but happily no other issues 😀
That looks as if it would work
My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2019. It spread to her lungs and liver. The pain she felt was unbearable and this affected my family. She was on gemcitabine, capecitabine Vitamin C nd Collagen supplements but to no avail. If not for the help of dr Akhigbe natural healing who used his herbal medicine to cure her, she would be deceased by now. I recommend everyone to reach out to him on his Facebook page 👇👇 Dr Akhigbe natural healing

5 tips - Goal setting after stroke | ARNI

As a stroke survivor, you probably heard the term ‘goal setting’ from your multi-disciplinary team who helped you in ‘the early days’. This is because goal setting is considered ‘best practi...I've called them my "new-ral" pathways this year ☺️
Mr Jay Ward was awarded Senior ARNI Instructor status in December 2025 at ARNI Rehab Training Day! Congratulations Jay!! Only one Senior status is awarded annually. This status is awarded at the ARNI Trustee's discretion to Instructors who have not just a combination of history of long and exemplary service with the ARNI Charity but also regularly represent ARNI on a regional, national or international stage.
Jay not only takes care of a full roster of ARNI stroke rehab clients on a daily basis (driving to 14 patients in four counties from his base in the Midlands), but is of constant terrific help to the Charity. He mans the ARNI stand with at the 3 day national Stroke conference each year, assists at Training Days and gets involved with suggesting and refining policy at Instructor level throughout the year. Thank you for everything that you do, Jay. If you've met Jay along the way, please give this post a Like! And please Share!

🦾 A pioneering Norwegian start-up, Vilje Bionics, has just developed the world’s first exoskeleton designed to support the entire arm, from the shoulder all the way down to the hand and following successful trials with over 40 patients, the company is preparing for a commercial launch in Norway during the first half of 2026 🗓🚀! ✨
Unlike existing arm exoskeletons that often stop at the elbow or focus solely on the hand, this revolutionary device, known as VilPower, provides integrated assistance across every joint, allowing survivors to perform complex, natural movements for the first time since their stroke 🚶♂️.
What makes VilPower truly different is its thought-activated design 🧠⚡️. While traditional tech relies on sensors placed directly on the skin, this prototype uses novel non-contact sensor technology coupled with machine learning to detect even the tiniest 'residual' muscle signals 📶. It essentially listens to the user's intent; when you think about moving, the exoskeleton amplifies that small impulse into a full, fluid motion! This helps rewire the brain through neuroplasticity by providing immediate physical feedback for every mental command.
While a specific UK release date hasn't been set, the rapid progress toward medical device compliance suggests it could follow shortly after the initial launch. Although an exact consumer price is still being finalised, early estimates for high-end bionic assistance of this caliber often range between £5,000 and £15,000, with the goal of making it an accessible alternative to long-term intensive clinical therapy 💸🏥.

Look out for a bit of tech that I'm going to post up today which helps amazingly with drop foot, that can be bought on Amazon for £325 😉 Tom
Bee Hynd and Julie Gregory - I agree with you both... good contributions to the topic... yes, stroke tech like this really fascinates me because I have a perspective of nearly 30 years as a stroke survivor and over that time I've been very aware of what does and what doesn't exist for stroke survivors (mainly what doesn't). It seems at the moment there's a mini-explosion in advancement of low and hi-tech gear available for survivors right now, where before there was much less/availability. Which can only be thought of as a good thing. The caution is of course that the evidence doesn't exist to show that rehab via tech is super to rehab via an expert person - and tech like this most usually has to be expert-introduced/led anyway. But it's a real marker that soon there will be cost-effective ways to ramp up plasticity by allowing motivated people to retrain as much as they possibly can, at home, using a smart programme to do better... Tom 😉
That sounds really promising....if it helps rewire what we have it should mean that longer term you do the movement on your own.... Fab that it's a start up too - just hope that the overall aim is financially accessible equipment ❤️🩹
so not affordable to Anyone
Only thing is they are so expensive to purchase , that very few get to experience relief and the movement they long for
This seems like a great way to recover functionality with less frustration. Hopefully it is accessible. Hopefully I can get to try it

Useful. Are they working on one for legs as well?

It's New Year's Eve already - and to cap off 2025, a major new study has just been published, from the University of Dundee, which has revealed that Mobile Stroke Units (MSUs) could slash emergency department transfers by a staggering 86%!
These specialised ambulances are like 'hospitals on wheels', equipped with built-in CT scanners and labs that allow medical teams to diagnose and treat patients right at their doorstep. Have you actually seen one of them yet? Let us know please in the comments below if you have...
The research, which followed a successful pilot in the East of England, showed that nearly half of patients (46.4%) could be safely managed at home after a pre-hospital diagnosis, while another 39.6% were sent directly to specialist wards, completely bypassing busy A&E departments.
Beyond saving precious brain cells by starting treatment faster, experts estimate that just one of these units could save the NHS around £1 million annually and prevent 600 unnecessary hospital admissions every year.
Professor Iris Grunwald, who led the research, is now calling for these transformative units to be funded across Scotland to ease pressure on overwhelmed hospitals and provide life-changing care to rural and urban communities alike 🧠⚡️🏥.
